The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil has released
Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Palm Oil
Production but the way forward is far from certain because
important issues of implementation, continuous improvement
and verification have yet to be resolved.
A recent Case Study of implementing the
RSPO Principles and Criteria within an ISO 14000
Environmental Management System framework was carried out at New Britain
Palm Oil Limited in Papua New Guinea.
This Case Study
emphasises the benefits of the ISO 14000 risk-based
approach to environmental management and shows how to use
the RSPO Criteria and to benchmark continuous improvement.
